Travel Logistics

GETTING THERE

We depart from the Port of Rome located in Civitavecchia, Italy, on Tuesday July 18, 2023.

The closest airport to the port is Leonardo Da Vinci – Fiumicino International Airport (FCO) in Rome, Italy. The port is approximately 40 miles from the airport and 54 miles from the center of Rome. The ship returns to Civitavecchia, Italy, on Tuesday August 1, 2023.

Passengers are responsible for arranging their own flights, accommodations (if needed) and transportation to the port. We suggest using search engines such as Expedia, Travelocity, etc. and encourage guests to check reviews. There are hotels within the city that mention airport transfers are included however it’s best to confirm this with the hotel.

ACCOMMODATION NEAR AIRPORT

For those wishing to overnight near the airport, the Hilton Rome Airport Hotel is conveniently located and offers quiet and safe accommodations.

The cost is estimated at $79 per person one way. These transfers will be available for purchase through the cruise line once cruise documents have been sent. Star Clippers will have a representative coordinating the transfers once passengers have exited the luggage area.

ALTERNATIVES TO STAR CLIPPERS TRANSFERS

For those who wish to arrive later in the day, here are some suggestions other than the transfers offering by Star Clippers.

TRAIN

This option is inexpensive but requires more time. Also, there are NO direct train services between the Port of Civitavecchia and the Airport.

TAXI

Taxis are readily available at the airport and can also be arranged through your hotel. Travel Time is approximately 1 hour depending on traffic. Price is calculated by the meter, number of travelers and luggage, so it will change according to traffic.

PRIVATE TRANSFER

A less expensive alternative to a taxi, as rates are fixed. Some even offer an extended trip that can include sightseeing. Consider doing your own research to see which is the best fit for your travel plans.

EMBARKATION

The Royal Clipper will be docked at the port of Civitavecchia between pier number 11 through 14.

The ship is not within walking distance from the entrance of the port; however, your taxi or private transfer usually can enter the port and take you directly to the terminal. A complimentary shuttle is also available from the entrance of the port to the pier.

Embarkation is scheduled to begin at 3 PM, and we request all guests to be on board no later than 5 PM. The ship sails at 6 PM on July 18, 2023.

LUGGAGE

All luggage must be securely packed and clearly labeled with passenger’s full name, ship’s name, cabin number and date of sailing. Luggage tags will be included with your e-Docs.

Spending Money

ONBOARD ACCOUNT

Your cruise includes all meals and all beverages excluding premium brands of alcohol, champagne and wine*.  Gift shop items, spa services, some shore excursions, and laundry services are additional.  All items and services purchased on board will be charged to your shipboard account. During the embarkation process the ship will take your credit card information and give you a key card. This is your stateroom key, personal identification card, and also used to charge services and products provided on board the ship. Each account can be settled in cash or credit card on the final day of the cruise. The following credit cards are accepted: Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Personal checks and Discover are not accepted on board. Please note that the currency used on board the ship is in Euro (€).

It is also a good idea to bring along Euros in smaller bills for miscellaneous use when only a small amount of currency is needed. Cash machines are available at the airport and around the cities and usually offer the best exchange rates.

*French or Italian house wines, house liqueurs, house spirits, cocktail of the day, non-alcoholic cocktails, soda by the glass, draft beer, bottled water, espresso and cappuccino are complimentary for each guest for the duration of the cruise. Premium brands of alcohol, premium wines and champagne are not included.

PERSONAL FUNDS AND CREDIT CARDS

American Express, Visa and MasterCard are accepted at most major hotels, shops and restaurants, as well as on board the ship. ATM machines are a good source for obtaining foreign currency. When traveling abroad, it is often a good idea to telephone your credit card companies in advance of departure and inform them of your travel plans. Doing so may prevent your card from being “tagged” as stolen and may prevent inconveniences.

TRAVEL INSURANCE

If you have not already done so, we ask that you purchase trip cancellation insurance. We do not want you to be one of our unfortunate passengers who does not purchase trip insurance and find themselves unavoidably having to cancel the cruise. Protect your vacation investment. Travel insurance can also reimburse you for any medical expenses incurred while onboard, baggage delays, and lost luggage. For more information, call TripAssure at 800-423-3632. Our agency ID is OMNT0904 or visit https://www.tripassure.com/main/?welcome=OMNT0904TX to purchase your policy today!

DECORUM & ATTIRE

IMPORTANT – A Reminder Regarding Decorum and Attire

To assure that cruise lines continue to support our charters and that we all enjoy a wonderful, stress-free, clothes-free experience, we ask passengers to please observe the following common-sense guidelines of decorum on board our cruises:

Passengers may be nude on board unless announcements are made that clothing is required.

When the ship is anchored in a port, passengers can be nude unless announcements have been made to the contrary. When the ship is docked alongside in port, all passengers must be dressed throughout the vessel, including balconies, until the ship leaves port and an announcement is made that nudity is again permissible.

Clothing is required for all meals taken in the dining room. Casual attire is fine. When in doubt as to what is appropriate attire, simply confirm that breasts, bottoms and genitalia are fully covered by clothing that is not considered to be fetish-wear or lingerie.

Lingerie and fetish-wear are not appropriate at any time, and bathrobes are not permitted in the dining room.

Please sit on a towel at all times while nude, in a G-string, thong, or any time you are bare-bottomed. A fresh beach towel will be provided in your stateroom each day for that purpose. Stacks of smaller towels will be placed throughout the ship outside of common areas in case you arrive without one.

No photographs, videos or electronic images of any person may be taken without the express consent of that individual. “NO PHOTO ZONES” around the pools or in dance venues must be followed to avoid confiscation of photo capturing devices.

Fondling or inappropriate touching of personal body parts or those of someone else, overt sexual activity or any solicitation for sexual acts is strictly prohibited.

Displaying yourself nude in front of other ships in port or while port authorities are on board the vessel for clearance is strictly prohibited.

Dangerous or rude behavior will not be tolerated at any time.

Passengers must comply with US Federal law regarding the possession or use of illegal substances.

Bare Necessities also complies with the cruise line’s regulations, including the right to dismiss persons from the cruise for abusing alcohol and/or drugs, not obeying all safety rules including our decorum and attire as well as not complying with the laws of the country we are visiting.

Failure to comply with any of the decorum and etiquette described in this section will be grounds for dismissal from the cruise. There are no refunds for dismissal and transportation is not provided from the port of dismissal.

Bare Tips

WHAT TO PACK?

What to Pack? Passengers may be bare in all areas on the ship except the dining room, where clothing is required. Shorts and t-shirts are perfectly acceptable dining room attire. Other times that clothing will be required is when customs officials board, during local folkloric performances aboard the ship or if we are docked alongside in port in view of land or other vessels.

When on shore, the climate calls for casual and comfortable clothing. Pack loose-fitting, natural fabrics, and plenty of casual shirts, walking shorts and comfortable footwear.

Essentials? Sunscreen, brimmed hats, sunglasses, swim suits for some shore excursions, beach shoes, bug repellent and any prescription medicine authorized by your physician.
