Amber Cove is a private cruise port located along the Dominican Republic’s northern “Amber Coast”. Within the port itself, guests can lounge by the large resort style pool and soak up the rays without the need for a swimsuit. Carnival has just confirmed Bare Necessities will be the only ship in port and has agreed to keep the port exclusive for our guests! So, guests will have the option of relaxing by the pool all day or venturing out to explore and return for a skinny dip before boarding the Carnival Pride for our next destination.

Amber Cove and Puerto Plata have plenty of options when it comes to sightseeing, including the Amber Museum and the Brugal Rum factory. The historic downtown and main plaza are great places to take a stroll, as is the Malecon, a three-mile-long open-air boardwalk overlooking the ocean. History buffs may want to visit Fort San Felipe, while nature-lovers can check out the famous Damajagua Falls or just relax on the beach. To get a bird’s-eye view of all there is to do at Amber Cove, head to the Sky Bar. It’s perched at the top of a 60-foot granite hill and offers panoramic views of the cove below.

Again, we will be sailing to Amber Cove this February and were thrilled to discover Carnival secured this port for our charter. In the past, the port authorities have permitted us to be nude onboard the ship while she’s docked as well as enjoy the massive pool area au naturel. This is the perfect place to enjoy skinny dipping with a swim up bar, plenty of lounge chairs, plus an option to rent a private cabana on the hillside or lagoon for the day.
