The Basics

Identification Requirements

A valid passport is required for travel. Check your passport expiration date carefully. All passengers must have a passport valid for 6 months after your return date. If your passport expires before January 9, 2023, you will need to have it renewed. Any guest without proper documentation will not be allowed to board the vessel and no refund of the cruise fare will be issued. Bare Necessities assumes no responsibility for advising guests of visa requirements.

Non U.S. citizens should contact the nearest embassy or consulate office for current passport and/or visa requirements for your entire journey.

It’s important to review Star Clipper’s “Health & hygiene protocols” at https://www.starclippers.com/us-dom/travel-health-statement.html. The site will provide necessary updates as the situation evolves. Bare Necessities will provide necessary information to our passengers as additional details become available.

Surcharges

Port taxes & fees, estimated at $560 per person, are due April 15, 2022. Gratuities are paid on board and are $150 US per person charged to your on board account in the equivalent amount in Euro (€).

Cruise Documents

You will receive your Star Clipper e-Docs (electronic cruise tickets) and luggage tags via email approximately 30 days prior to the cruise. Passengers first and last name on the e-Docs must be exactly as they appear on the passport. Middle names are not necessary.  If you have your passport, please call our offices to provide us with this information .  Passport information is required to submit your reservation to the cruise line.  Please do not email these details for security purposes.

If you plan to be traveling 30 days prior to our cruise and do not have access to a printer, please let us know and we will bring your documents to the pier.

Shore Excursions

A list of shore excursions, including any clothes-free excursions, will be provided with your e-Docs (electronic cruise tickets) approximately 30 days prior to the cruise. All shore excursions are available for purchase onboard the Royal Clipper starting on embarkation day.

Travel Logisitics

Embarkation and Disembarkation

The Royal Clipper will be alongside in the San Basilio Cruise Terminal in Venice located at Fondamenta Zattere Al Ponte Lungo, Saturday, June 25, 2022. Embarkation is scheduled to begin at 3:30 PM. The ship is scheduled to depart at 7:30 PM. We may request to depart earlier if all guests are onboard.

The Royal Clipper will arrive in Venice for an overnight stay, Friday, July 8, 2022. You may choose to disembark the ship at this time; however, official disembarkation is on Saturday, July 9, 2022. Once the ship has been cleared by local Immigration and Customs officials, disembarkation will begin at approximately 8 AM. Please consider booking your flight departing no earlier than 12 Noon.

More information about how to purchase Star Clipper transfers and shore excursions will be emailed with your e-tickets approximately 30 days prior to the cruise. Transfers may also be purchased on board.

Luggage

All luggage must be securely packed and clearly labeled with passenger’s full name, ship’s name, cabin number and date of sailing. Luggage tags will be included with your e-Docs. We recommend that travel documents (cruise tickets, passport, and visa), valuables, and medication be hand carried in your carry-on bag. Neither Star Clippers, Ltd., nor Star Clippers Americas, nor Bare Necessities are responsible for any loss, theft or damage to passenger’s luggage or personal property. Please contact your air carrier(s) directly to determine their size specifications, weight limits and/or fees for luggage.

Guests have the option of storing their luggage at the San Basilio terminal for an additional fee. “Deposito Bagagli” or left-luggage offices are normally open on days when cruise ships are arriving and departing.

Flights

This cruise is round-trip from the Port of Venice, Italy beginning Saturday, June 25, 2022 and returning on Saturday, July 9, 2022. The closest airport to the port with international and domestic flights is Marco Polo International Airport (VCE). This airport is located in Venice, Italy and is 10 miles from the pier – approximately a 20-30 minute drive from the Port of Venice. Arriving a day early comes highly recommended to ensure you do not miss the boat. When scheduling your return flight home, we recommend scheduling after noon.

Transportation

More information on Star Clipper transfers will be emailed when passengers receive their booking numbers and e-Tickets via e-mail approximately 30 days prior to the cruise.

Alternatives to Star Clippers Transfers

A land taxi from Venice’s Marco Polo Airport to the San Basilio terminal is currently priced at €45. To be safe, allow at least 30 minutes for the trip.

A water taxi from Marco Polo Airport to the San Basilio terminal can range from €100-125 but can easily be shared by up to 10 people.  You will find water-taxi ticket booths in the arrivals halls of the airport, after you’ve left baggage claim.

Spending Money

Onboard Account

Your cruise includes all meals and all beverages excluding premium brands of alcohol, champagne and wine*.  Gift shop items, spa services, some shore excursions, and laundry services are additional.  All items and services purchased on board will be charged to your shipboard account. During the embarkation process the ship will take your credit card information and give you a key card. This is your stateroom key, personal identification card, and also used to charge services and products provided on board the ship. Each account can be settled in cash or credit card on the final day of the cruise. The following credit cards are accepted: Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Personal checks and Discover are not accepted on board. Please note that the currency used on board the ship is in Euro (€).

*French or Italian house wines, house liqueurs, house spirits, cocktail of the day, non-alcoholic cocktails, soda by the glass, draft beer, bottled water, espresso and cappuccino are complimentary for each guest for the duration of the cruise. Premium brands of alcohol, premium wines and champagne are not included.

It is also a good idea to bring along Euros in smaller bills for miscellaneous use when only a small amount of currency is needed. Cash machines are available at the airport and around the cities and usually offer the best exchange rates.

Personal Funds and Credit Cards

American Express, Visa and MasterCard are accepted at most major hotels, shops and restaurants, as well as on board the ship. ATM machines are a good source for obtaining foreign currency. When traveling abroad, it is often a good idea to telephone your credit card companies in advance of departure and inform them of your travel plans. Doing so may prevent your card from being “tagged” as stolen and may prevent inconveniences.

Travel Insurance

If you have not already done so, we ask that you purchase trip cancellation insurance. We do not want you to be one of our unfortunate passengers who does not purchase trip insurance and find themselves unavoidably having to cancel the cruise. Protect your vacation investment. Travel insurance can also reimburse you for any medical expenses incurred while onboard, baggage delays, and lost luggage. For more information, call TripAssure at 800-423-3632. Our agency ID is OMNT0904 or visit https://www.tripassure.com/main/?welcome=OMNT0904TX to purchase your policy today!

Bare Tips

What to Pack?

What to Pack? Passengers may be bare in all areas on the ship except the dining room, where clothing is required. Shorts and t-shirts are perfectly acceptable dining room attire. Other times that clothing will be required is when customs officials board, during local folkloric performances aboard the ship or if we are docked alongside in port in view of land or other vessels.

When on shore, the climate calls for casual and comfortable clothing. Pack loose-fitting, natural fabrics, and plenty of casual shirts, walking shorts and comfortable footwear.

Essentials? Sunscreen, brimmed hats, sunglasses, swim suits for some shore excursions, beach shoes, bug repellent and any prescription medicine authorized by your physician.
